Smart Board

Smart Board

What is a Smart Board? :

A Smart Board is an interactive whiteboard that connects to a computer and projector. The Smart board works with a touch function, where you can write with both special pens whose are available with the Smart Board and by typing fingers. Unlike an ordinary whiteboard you can move, enlarge / reduce and modify objects that you have cut in, written or drawn in from other pages. You can include planning lessons, make and display presentations. In order to use a Smart Board the school needs to buy a Smart Board to the school, they will also need to have access to a computer and a projector, because the Smart Board connects to the computer and the projector. The projector is needed to show what is written or done via the Smart Board towards the other students or teachers who’s looking or are there during the meeting or lesson.

The use of a Smart Board:

There are many different ways you can use  the Smart Board, it can be used for all different subjects ranging from math to geography or language. The usage of Smart Board is great, you can work with it through both audio, film and video. Writings, different types of texts, images and the like, you can put your texts or pictures in there yourself or   put the students' own texts and pictures there. It's easy to make changes to improve the process. You can scan images and texts from books or other materials that you can show up via the Smart Board for the whole class, which can be used in briefings or if you want to scan the pictures from a book, when the teacher are reading aloud in front of the class you can show the students the pictures on the board.

 Thoughts:

Teaching I think is much more flexible, when you use the Smart Board, because it´s easy for teachers to change their plans, changing the way we work in the class, you can view the images quickly and easily if, for example, you are talking about a certain area or subject and the students doesn’t know what it is or how it looks like, you could easily show the class what it looks like with help from the interactive whiteboard. You can also easily adjust the plans or materials to various meetings with other teachers, parents and students. Using an interactive whiteboard, the students become much more involved, they can practice different tasks example math problems, and if the students should report something, they can easily make a presentation with help from the Smart Board. They can show the work they have done and can change the presentation easier than if they used a Power point or something like that.

  1. An Smartborad (interactive whiteboard on English) is a good tool in the classroom.
You can use it in all the subjects in school. Both pupil and the teacher can use it, witch is positive that they can use it together. Technology is in the center of everything we do in our lives. Like in our spare time, watching television, play game, Facebook, twitter and so on.

It is good that the school is following the community. I think it’s tragic that the pupil know much more than the teacher in the different technology. In many cases that I have watched a teacher, they don’t even what to learn about the ICT that exist on their the school - ”this book is good and it will always be good”.

Books, pencil, paper and so on is needed as well, but to use the technology like a smart board can edge the intensity in the message and more pupil get the chance to understand the instruction or the briefing that the teacher is doing. By presenting it on different ways like, writing it, reading it, see a movie about it or do something physical on the smart board increases that chance for the pupils.

I liked that you posted a movie from youtube, if you don’t now what a smart board is, that is a good way to understand the text in your blog and help the mind to build u a picture what a smart board is.
I think this information how a smartboard works is easy to get from expel you tube, so the ”old way” teachers doesn’t have anything to blame it on.

  2. I also think the Smart Board is an great tool in the classroom and
I like that you can use the Smart Board to so many things and areas like you two write. I would see that all classrooms have an interactive whiteboard, It´s a very good complement to the "ordinary" tools.

It´s also important like Ingela write that the teachers are following and learn about different technology. Like you write it sometimes feels like the children know more than the teachers.
When I study at the teacher education a teacher told me that the children today is very familiar with new technology but that they can´t do the basic things. I think that´s right, I often hear children ask about for an example where they are going to write, in which program and so on. I think that it´s important to `show the children the basic because we can´t take for granted that the children today can the technology just because they are children and we think that everyone today has an computer and can a lot about it. But of course many children are not as “afraid” of the technology as we are…:)

  3. I think a Smartboard is the perfect tool in the classroom! You can use it as an ordinary whiteboard (except that you can't use your whiteboard pencils to write on it...), and as all of you wrote, you can use the board in many different ways compared to the ordinary whiteboard. The students' get to be more active during the lessons and since learning by doing is a good way to teach the students something new, I guess you'll get more engaged and motivated students in your class if you've got a Smartboard!
What I've heard about the Smartboards is that they're very expensive and that quite a lot of schools can't afford to buy them. Perhaps you could have written something about that?

Your presentation is giving me the most important basic facts about the Smartboard and its functions. It's written in a good, explaining way and you're giving several examples of how you can use the board together with the students. I would prefer some pictures though, especially for those who aren't familiar with a board like this. But you've made a good choice, adding a YouTube video to get a chance to take a closer look at how a Smartboard works.

Just like Ingela and Maria are writing, it's tragic that the students often know more about technical tools than the teachers. That's also a problem I've met in school, that several teachers doesn't know how to use the Smartboard and chooses to use the ordinary, well known overhead projectors and whiteboards instead. By educating the staff in schools that have Smartboards, the money that have being invested in these boards, would be put to a good use.
