Powerpoint presentation

PowerPoint

About this ICT-resource and how it works
This is a resource that can be used in many different ways to many different things all that limits you is your imagination. You need to install the Microsoft PowerPoint program into your computer. You could connect PowerPoint to your interactive whiteboard if you like and you don’t need Internet to use this resource. Both teachers and pupils can use this resource in all ages as long as the teacher guides the pupils’ through the technology. This can be done with simple instructions and an overview. You can add texts, colors, effects, pictures and sounds to your PowerPoint presentation. This ICT-resource is fun to use and you can create your own design. You can save your work at a USB pen or email it to somebody else and you can also use it over and over again.
The idea with a PowerPoint is to write down key words and pictures as support during an oral presentation about a topic and not whole texts.
What do you need to make the resource work?
You need a computer and the software Microsoft PowerPoint program that follows with all computers today in a Microsoft office package. You can also connect this resource to an interactive whiteboard for a bigger picture in a classroom if you like. Now, all you need to succeed is your imagination.

How can PowerPoint be used by teachers?
This is a fun, interesting and easy way to introduce new topics or themes for the pupils and it is fun to look at during the time the teacher speaks. It also helps the teacher and the pupils to stay focused on what’s important. You can use this as a support in the whole class or in smaller groups.

How can PowerPoint be used by pupils?
They can use this ICT-resource as a support to present a topic or to retell a text or a story. It can be used in group where the pupils’ work together or individually. They can create their own presentation and play with the effects and add pictures or music to it. It is an exciting tool. The pupils give an oral present of their work and gets to practice on their language skills.
Why should you use PowerPoint in your class?
It is a cheap ICT-resource that can be used in all ages. It’s easy to learn how to use it and the pupils’ are going to love this fun way that makes great learning opportunist that develop their language skills. They present their own work oral and they get to practice their writing and spelling skills during the work in a fun way. The teacher can choose on what level the resource are going to be used at and can put own limits of how it can be used by the pupils. It is easier to present a topic in front of a class when everyone doesn’t stare at you, now the classmates can look at the PowerPoint presentation as well and it helps pupil’s to stay on track and to not forget what they are going to say.
My considerations about this ICT-resource
I think this is a good tool that can be helpful in many ways. As a teacher you need to help the pupils’ to organize their PowerPoint’s so it don’t get messy and contains too much texts. It is a cheap resource that anyone can use and it makes learning more exciting and interesting.

  1. I think powerpoint (p.p) is a wonderful opportunity for pupils to work in a way that is motivational for them. They can use their imagination and work on topics that are in their interest. The software powerpoint makes language acquisition fun when you can work with music, pictures and embed video. And at the same time you practice using few words (the main points) to tell the whole story, when doing an oral presentation. They can also use the software for making novels and storytelling. The teacher can use powerpoint in all subjects and it makes the lesson more interesting for the pupils when they can listen, watch pictures and see a few supporting words to get the bigger picture and therefor you can reach many different pupils and their needs. It is a great support. I wonder how you would guide the pupils to use powerpoint? You could have a presentation in p.p and show it on a projector so that the pupils can work on their computers at the same time and try it out. If they don't have their own computer they can work in groups. otherwise it might take a long time to get everybody started. It would be fun to show the parents the pupils work with p.p. Since not everybody have a computer at home (with Microsoft and the office-package) you can have a presentation in school so that the pupils can show their parents what they have worked with. They can work in groups. If you save a p.p file and email it you have to make sure that the person receiving the file have the office-package. If you don't have Microsoft the office-package can be rather expensive. For example some people have Linux. But there are other softwares that can be used instead of powerpoint. It is wonderful if you can use p.p with smartboard so that the pupils can be involved together. If you don't have smartboard maybe you have a projector so that everybody can follow what you do on the computer. The teacher can also use p.p when having a parent-teacher meeting. Then it is easier to reach everybody if not everybody understand the language. As You said Annelie Ax "This is a resource that can be used in many different ways to many different things all that limits you is your imagination. " I will use p.p many times with my pupils.
